About Us

We believe the individual impact of football players cannot be measured by vanity metrics like goals, passes, tackles won or possession. Real team players influence besides their own metrics especially their team members, their opponents and as a final output the game result directly and indirectly. This is what Football GAP is about.

Game Review

In a surprising turn of events, Newcastle United secured a narrow 1-0 victory over Chelsea in their Premier League clash on Saturday. The match, held at Stamford Bridge, saw Anthony Gordon (GAP -0.7%) score the decisive goal in the 18th minute, a result that defied pre-match expectations given Chelsea's home advantage and recent form. Chelsea, who had made two changes to their lineup with Robert Sanchez and Marc Cucurella coming in for Filip Jörgensen and Jorrel Hato, struggled to break down a resilient Newcastle defense. The home side's manager opted for these changes likely to bolster the defense, but the strategy did not pay off as expected. Newcastle, on the other hand, made five changes, introducing Jacob Murphy (GAP +1.8%), Nick Woltemade (GAP +0.3%), Sven Botman (GAP +0.3%), Joe Willock (GAP +0.7%), and Valentino Livramento (GAP +5.1%). These changes seemed to inject fresh energy into the team, contributing to their solid performance. The game's only goal came early, with Gordon capitalizing on a defensive lapse to put Newcastle ahead. Despite Chelsea's efforts to equalize, they were unable to find the back of the net, with Newcastle's goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale (GAP -3.9%) making crucial saves to maintain the lead. Chelsea's attacking players, including João Pedro (GAP +4.1%) and Cole Palmer (GAP +4.9%), were unable to convert their chances, highlighting a lack of clinical finishing that has plagued the team in recent matches. Defensively, Marc Cucurella (GAP +5.5%) and Reece James (GAP +3.0%) were notable for their efforts to contain Newcastle's counter-attacks. This result leaves Chelsea in a precarious position as they aim to secure a top-four finish. Meanwhile, Newcastle's victory boosts their confidence as they continue to push for a European spot. The win also reflects positively on the away team's tactical adjustments and resilience, as they managed to hold onto their lead despite Chelsea's pressure. Post-match reactions highlighted the significance of this win for Newcastle, with fans and pundits praising their disciplined performance. Chelsea, on the other hand, will need to regroup and address their attacking inefficiencies as they look ahead to their next fixtures.

What is GAP?

What is Plus Minus Goals (G±)?

Plus Minus Goals (G±) is the average goal difference per game while the player was on the pitch. A value above 0 indicates that the team rather wins, a value below 0 means his team concedes more goals than they score when the player is on the pitch. As an example, if the player's team is winning 3:1 the goal difference is +2, if the player's team is loosing 0:1, the goal difference is -1. It is a pure metric which is barely adjusted for circumstances to purely show the goal difference.

What is GAP?

GAP (Game Advantage Percentage) shows the percentage gap between a player and the average league player. It answers the question: How much does a player improve or worsen a team's performance? It is based on high level game data with a focus on the impact on the goal difference (G±) from the last 50 games of a player. Besides that, GAP goes further and considers game context by involving data from the player and all other players who are at the same time on the pitch, no matter if teammates or opponents. Football GAP - the individual metric for team players.
